Pictorial Record of Professor Yamashita and R. Kovacevic's Instructional Training Sessions at the Classical Judo Institute
Occasionally, the Institute a/k/a Stamford Judo Dojo is fortunate enough to receive famous coaches from throughout the world. We were very fortunate, indeed, to have a visit from the All Japan National Team Head Coach, Y. Yamashita. Prof. Yamashita totally dominated world judo from 1975 to 1985, during which time, he was the 1984 Olympic Open Category Champion, four time World Champion (1979, 1981, 1983), and nine time winner of the All Japan Championships. In the 1981 Worlds, Prof. Yamashita accomplished the rare feat of winning both the Open and Heavyweight Divisions simultaneously.
Radomir and I arrived the same week in Japan in 1974 to train in Judo, and we were close friends ever since until his untimely death a few years ago. Radomir matriculated at Tokai University and was Prof. Yamashita's roommate there. Radomir participated in three Olympics (Montreal, Moscow, and Los Angeles) and was a bronze-medalist at the Moscow Olympics.
